Energy sector is expected to play a key role in India's development. Recognizing the importance of the Energy sector, the Government of India has announced various reforms in the energy sector in recent times. In the Union Budget 2021-2022, USD 42 billion was allocated for a revamped and result-linked new power distribution sector scheme over the next five years. Besides, the government has allocated (approx.) USD 829 million for the ‘Green Energy Corridor’ scheme to boost India’s renewable energy sector.
The Government has also allowed the oil sector PSUs to induct private sector partners for production enhancement, bringing new technology and capital. New policies including the Policy to Promote and Incentivize Enhanced Recovery Methods for Oil and Gas, 2018, and Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy, 2016 have been announced by the Indian government.
With various initiatives of the Government including liberalization of the foreign direct investment policy, the energy sector is expected to see a rapid growth in the near future.
