Reforms in Criminal Laws

The Ministry of Home Affairs vide press release of August 11, 2023 introduced the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 in the Lok Sabha to repeal the Indian Penal Code, 1860, Criminal Procedure Code, (1898), 1973 and Indian Evidence Act, 1872, respectively. The purpose of these new laws will be to protect all the rights given by the Constitution of India to Indian citizens. The underlying objective will be to provide justice and give punishment only where it is required to create a sense of prevention of crime.
