9th Manufacturing Innovation Conclave 7 June 2019, ITC Maurya, New Delhi

Lovejeet Singh, Senior Associate, attended Manufacturing Innovation Conclave organized by CII held at ITC Maurya, New Delhi on June 07, 2019.
The conference was attended by several Government of India officials such as Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and Special Secretary, NITI Aayog as well as representatives of several manufacturing, innovation and technology companies. The key aspects of discussion during the conference were role of innovation and new technologies in the industrial transformation and the requirement of collaborations for building capabilities of businesses

Interactive Meet organized by ICSI Institute of Insolvency Professionals on "Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 5 June 2019, New Delhi

Dinesh Gupta, Senior Associate, attended the Interactive Meet organized by the ICSI Institute of Insolvency Professionals at New Delhi on 5 June, 2019 and participated in deliberations on:
1. Challenges that lie ahead for the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code ("Code"); and
2. Changes required in the Code, Rules and Regulations
The key points of deliberations included current challenges and amendments required on different aspects of the Code including treatment of home buyers as a separate class of creditors under the Code, challenges in keeping a corporate debtor (under liquidation) as a going concern, issues relating to appointment of resolution professionals, issues relating to contingent liabilities, remedies for failure of resolution applicants to implement resolution plan etc.

Symposium [Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016- Unresolved Issues] 31 May 2019, New Delhi

Shwetabh Sinha, Partner and Dinesh Gupta, Senior Associate, attended the symposium and interactive session on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 organised by the National Company Law Tribunal Bar Association at New Delhi on May 31, 2019.
Hon'ble Justice Shri S. J. Mukhopadhaya, Chairperson, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal was 'Chief Guest' at the session. Hon'ble Chief Justice Shri M. M. Kumar, President, National Company Law Tribunal was 'Guest of the Honour' and Dr. M. S. Sahoo, chairperson of IBBI, was 'Key Note Speaker'. The speakers deliberated on 'Unresolved Issues in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016'. The symposium was attended by various insolvency professionals and other professionals.

Clasis Law in collaboration with Conventus Law, organized a breakfast round table meet on May 29 in Hong Kong. Vineet Aneja, Managing Partner and Mustafa Motiwala, Partner spoke to various general counsels on various aspects, including key issues to be kept in mind while doing business in India.

Seminar on "Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016- the Road Ahead" organized by NIRC-ICSI in association with the IBBI 18 May 2019, New Delhi

Dinesh Gupta, Senior Associate, attended the seminar on "Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016- the Road Ahead" organized by NIRC-ICSI in association with the IBBI at New Delhi on 18 May, 2019.
CS M. S. Sahoo, chairperson of IBBI, was chief guest at Seminar. In his address, he deliberated on the matters related to objective of the Code, going concern liquidation, key aspects of resolution plan etc. In addition, the challenges being faced in enforcement of the Code including the challenges related to drafting and negotiation of the resolution plans, challenges in voluntary liquidation were discussed by panelists and moderators.

IPBA 2019 25-27 April 2019, Singapore

Mustafa Motiwala, Partner and Head-Disputes Resolution, attended the IPBA 2019 (Inter-Pacific Bar Association Conference) held at Singapore. The event was very well attended with over 1200 lawyers from several countries. The plenary sessions were very interesting. The sessions were well balanced and spread over a variety of interesting and thought provoking topics in the dispute resolution space and other areas as well. The event gave a good opportunity to meet with new people and revive earlier contacts.

Lawserv, The Legal Sevices Expo 14th February 2019, Mumbai

Clasis Law partnered with IDEX Legal for the LawServ “The Legal Services Expo” event on February 14, 2019, at the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai. As part of the theater session, Clasis Law conducted an interactive session on the subject of ‘Prevention of Sexual Harassment at work’. The session was conducted by Mr. Vineet Aneja, Managing Partner and Ms. Priyanka Anand, Associate Partner from the Clasis Law. The hour long session was very well received by the attendees and the speakers were approached by many in-house counsels, directors and HR representatives to discuss the practical difficulties faced by them viz-a-viz the POSH Act and challenges of handling complaints in an effective manner.

National Conference on MNCs & India: Creating Mutual Value 13 December 2018, New Delhi

Gaurav Wahie, Partner and Lovejeet Singh, Senior Associate attended the “National Conference on MNCs and India: Creating Mutual Value” organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held at Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi on December 13, 2018.
The conference, which was attended by Government officials such as Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion as well as representatives of several large multinational companies present in India, focused on the policy and regulatory challenges being faced by multinationals as well as the required reforms.

Indian Corporate Aviation Summit 9 November 2018, New Delhi

Lovejeet Singh, Senior Associate, Clasis Law attended Indian Corporate Aviation Summit organized by Aeropodium, held on November 09, 2018 at Holiday Inn New Delhi International Airport, New Delhi. The summit focused on latest developments in the corporate aviation sector in India and new business opportunities and challenges. The speakers discussed aspects relating to future of business aviation, different business models, challenges with the Indian Government authorities and recent steps taken by the Government of India in the aviation sector. The summit was attended by several commercial aviation companies, aircraft manufacturers, international leasing and financing companies, insurance companies and bankers.

SCCA Annual Black Tie 2018 2 November 2018, Singapore

Our Managing Partner Vineet Aneja and Partner Mustafa Motiwala attended the annual black-tie event of the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association held in Singapore. The event was well attended by general counsels based in Singapore. It was well organized and a good mix of informative talks and entertainment that ended with a sumptuous sit-down dinner. Our partners met with GC's and had some interesting and knowledge sharing conversations.

Permanent Court of Arbitration Conference 27-28 October 2018, New Delhi

Ashmi Mohan, Senior Associate, Clasis Law attended the second Permanent Court of Arbitration Conference held on 27th and 28 October, 2018 at New Delhi. The Conference was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs. The conference mainly addressed the issue with respect to the challenges faced during inter-state arbitration and Investor state dispute settlement. The sessions were chaired by various sitting judges of the Supreme Court of India and former Chief Justice of India. The speakers included Partners of Law Firms from across the world and the Secretary General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration

Road show on Competition Law 15 October 2018, Mumbai

Barasha Baruah Pathak, Associate Partner attended a conference titled, Road show on Competition Law held at Hotel Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai on 15th October, 2018. The key focus of the conference was to engage the stakeholders in informative and practical discussion pertaining to cartels and leniency, merger controls and various topics of competition law. The conference was attended by the officials of Competition Commission of India, Indian Institution of Corporate Affairs, practicing lawyers and officials of banks and corporates. 37th National Conference - "NATCON 2018 28-29 September 2018, Pune

The National Institute of Personnel Management (Pune Chapter) hosted its 37th National Conference - "NATCON 2018" on 28th & 29th September 2018 at Hotel Westin, Pune. The conference was well attended by the HR fraternity, including delegates from all over India and overseas. The conference was attended by Mr. Gaurav Wahie, Partner and Ms. Priyanka Anand, Associate Partner from Clasis Law. The theme of the conference was 'managing future of work and workplace' and had renowned national and international speakers sharing their views on current challenges to effective workplace, exploring the impact of technology on workplace and means to develop a performance driven culture.

Interactive meeting of “Friends of South Africa”-7th September 2018, Mumbai

Clasis Law hosted an event in its Mumbai office on September 7 which was a successful interactive meeting of “Friends of South Africa”. The event was well attended by thought leaders from a cross section of the corporate world ranging from Power, Financial, Social, Healthcare, Tourism, Start-up ecocsystem etc.
The Chief Guest was HE Ms. Maropene Ramokgopa, South African Consul General. She shared her insights about the potential that South Africa holds for companies willing to invest there.
Those present shared views ranging from Financial & Investments, Medical Tourism, Power, Smart Grids, IT, Healthcare, Media etc.

Conference on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code: Learnings, Challenges and Way Forward 18th August 2018, Mumbai

Aniketh Nair, Senior Associate, Clasis Law attended a conference organized by Confederation of Indian Industry on Learnings, Challenges and Way Forward of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code at Hotel Taj Mahal, Colaba on August 18, 2018. The conference focused on the change of the business landscape in current times, the effects of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill, 2018, the recommendations of the Committee on bad loans resolution, lending standards, allocation of capital, valuation, time management and global experiences; litigation in latest cases and learnings from successful cases under IBC.

CII Manufacturing Innovation Conclave June 22, 2018, New Delhi

Clasis Law was a corporate sponsor of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Manufacturing Innovation Conclave held at ITC Maurya, New Delhi on June 22, 2018. Parul Kashyap, Counsel/Head of Business Development and Lovejeet Singh, Senior Associate attended the event. The conclave was attended by manufacturing and information technology companies. The conclave focused on the need of innovation and R&D for the growth of Indian manufacturing sector. The industry leaders deliberated on the road ahead for industries adopting innovation in manufacturing. The conclave also discussed increasing role of robotics and artificial intelligence in the manufacturing sector and their impact on employment.

Knowledge session on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 hosted by Clasis Law- 8 March 2018, Mumbai

A roundtable talk was organised on March 8, 2018 at the Mumbai office of Clasis Law jointly with the Indo- French Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Mustafa Motiwala, Head of the Disputes Resolution practice made a presentation on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 from the perspective of the provisions relating to issuing notices by operational creditors and filing petitions by financial and operational creditors and the process thereafter. The latest judgements and their implications were also discussed.

Clasis Law hosted a roundtable on efficient dispute Resolution in a rapidly evolving business environment: Why arbitrate in Singapore, and how will any award be enforced in India? in the Mumbai office on February 13, 2018. Mr Mustafa Motiwala, Head of Mumbai office and Litigation and Disputes Resolution practice and Ms Sapna Jhangiani, Partner, Clyde & Co., Singapore are the speakers in the event. Sapna gave a very informative and elaborate presentation about SIAC arbitrations and its rules. Mustafa spoke about enforcement of foreign awards in India and various strategies relating to the same. The event was attended by select clients and was followed by Q&A and interactions based on live cases of the audience.

Clasis Law hosted a knowledge session on ‘Compliance Risks for Foreign Companies Doing Business in India’, in association with the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) at the IFCCI office on 14th December 2017.
